(Fort McMurray, AB, October 25, 2013) - Several recent initiatives led by ONE Team members exemplify the spirit of giving back to the community, including involvement in the recent CIBC Run for the Cure on October 6.

In late September climbing staff at the K-Rock Climbing Wall hosted the second annual Climb for the Cure. This event, which asked participants for a donation to climb the state-of-the-art climbing wall, encouraged participants to join the climbing wall staff in a fun and friendly environment, while raising awareness and funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The event was hosted in conjunction with the CIBC Run for the Cure, and with all proceeds going to breast cancer research. Participants were encouraged to show their support by wearing pink and taking part in climbing related games and raffles.

On October 6 ONE Team members participated in the annual CIBC Run for the Cure with staff members serving on the organizing committee for the run and participating in the event itself. Over 600 community members participated in the annual event, with a team of ONE Team members raising a total of $1935.49 to go towards breast cancer research. In total the community event fundraised over $130,000, and included a 1 km and 5 km run, children’s play area, a performance from the Shantelle Davidson Band, and a community barbecue.

Finally, during the entire month of October, ONE Team members at the Syncrude Aquatic Centre are proudly wearing pink t-shirts to support cancer research. The employees have raised $800 by purchasing pink t-shirts to show their support for cancer research, and their commitment to finding a cure for cancer.

“We are tremendously proud of our ONE Team members as we believe they are truly the heart of everything we do,” said Tim Reid, Chief Operating Officer at MacDonald Island Park. “Not only do they give everything they have every day when they come to work they go further and give back to the community, often through their own initiative and drive. They have a clear dedication and commitment to making a difference in the Wood Buffalo region every day.”
