(Fort McMurray, June 7, 2019) -

The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC), in collaboration with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), is pleased to announce the line-up of Canada Day celebration events taking place at MacDonald Island Park on June 30 and July 1, 2019. The community is invited to enjoy this two-day celebration. In 2019, the majority of MacDonald Island Park Canada Day activities will be conveniently located at the SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place.

On Sunday, June 30, head down to MacDonald Island Park for a day of baseball and music, as the Fort McMurray Giants host the Brooks Bombers for a doubleheader at the Shell Place Baseball Stadium and enjoy free music entertainment all evening long at the SMS Equipment Stadium, followed by fireworks presented by Syncrude.

June 30 activities:

  • 2 p.m. & 7 p.m. - Fort McMurray Giants host Brooks Bombers (Shell Place Baseball Stadium)
  • 5:30 – 7 p.m. - Country 93.3 & 97.9 Rock Community Music Showcase (SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place)
  • 7 p.m. - DJ QPid, Tradmor, 40 Below, and Soul Speaker (SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place)
  • 11:59 p.m. – Syncrude Grand Finale Fireworks (SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place)

On Monday, July 1, enjoy Canada Day activities across Fort McMurray. From a Bannock and Pancake breakfast to bouncy castles and face painters, there is something for everyone and continued family fun as we celebrate Canada’s 152nd birthday.

July 1 activities:

  • 8 – 10 a.m. - Bannock & Pancake Breakfast presented by the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo, in partnership with McMurray Metis and Fort McMurray Heritage Society (Fort McMurray Heritage Village)
  • 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. - Free Museums Day (Heritage Village & Heritage Shipyard)
  • 10 a.m.9:30 p.m. – Toonie Swim (Syncrude Aquatic Centre)
  • 10:30 a.m. - Canada Day Parade
  • 12 – 5 p.m. – Children’s activities, bouncy castles, face painters, character experiences* and more (SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place)
  • 1 p.m. & 3 p.m. - Thomas & Friends Live Show on Mix 103.7 & 100.5 Cruz FM Family Main Stage (SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place)
  • 6 p.m. - Fort McMurray Giants host Brooks Bombers (Shell Place Baseball Stadium)

*To better serve guests, this year character experiences will be provided by registration with a limited number of guests per time slot. This year’s character experiences will feature Paw Patrol pups. Registration is free and will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 14. Space is limited.
