(Fort McMurray, August 14, 2014) - The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Reid effective September 12, 2014.

“The RRC would like to inform the community of the resignation of CEO Tim Reid,” said Michael Cachia, Chair of the RRC Board of Directors. “During his tenure as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the former MacDonald Island Park Corporation (MIPC) and now as CEO of the RRC, Tim has achieved several significant milestones, including the successful completion of the expansion of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre and operation of that facility and Miskanaw Golf Club, the community-led development of Shell Place, the opening of the Anzac Recreation Centre presented by Nexen Energy and recent community engagement for the Northside Recreation Centre and delivery of our facility recommendation to Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Council.”

“Tim successfully led the transition from MIPC to the RRC, embarking on a new mandate to deliver excellence in sport, recreation and event experiences across the Wood Buffalo region. This progress has been achieved through Tim’s dedicated leadership and the ‘people first’ foundation he has fostered with ‘ONE Team’, the group of professionals that will continue to steward the RRC to future success. We wish Tim and his family all the best in the future as he moves on to new challenges and opportunities and will always consider him part of the ‘ONE Team’ family.”

Reid was hired as COO of MacDonald Island Park Corporation in 2009 and transitioned into the role of CEO of the RRC in July, 2013. Reid has accepted the role of President and CEO of Northlands in Edmonton, Alberta and will commence his new role on September 15, 2014.

Russell Agnew, Chief Financial Officer of the RRC, will act as interim COO for the RRC effective immediately. Reid will continue to act in a supporting capacity for six months as the organization transitions to new leadership and a recruitment process for a new CEO and permanent COO is undertaken.

“The last five years have been deeply satisfying on both a professional and personal level,” said Reid. “I am tremendously excited to move on to a new opportunity with Northlands in Edmonton and am profoundly grateful to the community of Fort McMurray, our many partners and stakeholders and the RMWB for their continued support of the RRC and ‘ONE Team’. I will always be indebted to the Wood Buffalo region for giving me the opportunity to call Fort McMurray home, experience its ‘Big Spirit’ and create lifelong friendships and memories. I have complete confidence in the strength of ‘ONE Team’ and its ability to meet the vision of making a difference in our region every day. ‘ONE Team’ is second to none and it is with conflicted emotions I walk away from my role as CEO with the RRC.  I will truly miss being part of ‘ONE Team’ as I have no doubt it will accomplish many more great outcomes for our region.”
